The Choir of the King

To explain my past week and a half fully would be impossible. It involved so many people, so many jokes, so much love and so much of God's grace. I spent it with 19 other people who were sold out for Christ and challenged me to live my life for Him. It was called a leadership development camp but I would use the term servant development. Or at least I would have a week ago. Before I found out that a leader and a servant are really the same thing, As the week went on I continued developing this image of the servant. This is some of what we came up with...

The servant is vulnerable and so made strong.
Mourns and thus shows compassion.
Loves unconditionally.
Works and is sustained.
Hurts and is rewarded.
Pursues what is pure and so gains it.
Forgiven and so forgives.
Less so Christ is more.
Understanding and so joyful.
Does not boast in good works, yet does not think less of itself.
Does not love sin, but does love the Father
Sees a need and fixes it.
Sees a broken heart and ministers through the Gospel.
Sees an opportunity and teaches through it.
Sees a sinner and loves it.
A lover of Love.
A lover of Grace.
Gives with all joy.
Pardons the wrong doer.
Ignores the wrong done.
Makes peace and resists frivolous talk.
Shown mercy and so shows mercy.

The servant is not a disheveled shell of a human, stepped on by others on the way to the top. The servant is what I am called to be. What you are called to be. What Jesus Christ was. He made Himself nothing, taking the form of the servant. What greater honor is there? We can make ourselves into the same form as Jesus Christ. And it isn't by stepping over people and gaining authority. We become more like Christ when we take two steps back, take the spotlight off ourselves and join the Chorus. You and I aren't made to be the highest. We aren't supposed to be the ones leading the way, because our Savior already did. Take a step back, hold on to your fellow members and belt out the glory of God. Join the Universe in His praise. And maybe get over yourself just a bit.
